2016 Lormar Endurance MTB Tour

2016 Lormar Endurance MTB Tour 1000 667 RideTheKaroo |

#UltimateKarooExperience – The name given by participants of the annual limited-entry Lormar Endurance Mountain Bike Tour.

This unique 3-day mountain bike Tour started off with 100 purebred Arabian horses galloping past participants as an opening ceremony! As the Karoo sun set, riders started their 22km Stage 1 Night Ride and were welcomed back at the hosting venue, Fairview Farm to a Karoo lamb “spitbraai”.

Stage 2 awoke riders with noises of a different kind than found in the city as chickens and turkeys walk freely around the farm and tented village of riders. Riders were lead out by Bidvest McCarthy Audi Wonderboom Pre-Owned vehicles to start their 70km journey past the beautiful Compasberg to the quaint village of Nieu Bethesda where they spent the day enjoying the artistic town, it’s people and little shops. The Tour took riders on a “Pub Ride” during the afternoon to the local microbrewery to enjoy a free beer and snacks as part of the package. The Tour with it’s 250 riders spent the night in tented accommodation. Stage 3 took riders through a nature reserve where zebras, kudus, springboks, wildebeest and many more wild life could be spotted from the bicycles as riders made their way back to Fairview farm.

Upon finishing the Tour, each participant received a locally made “windpomp” as finishers medal along with an ice cold Darling craft beer.

2016 saw 250 participants not only from all over South Africa but also all the way from the United States, Belgium and England! The Lormar Endurance MTB Tour’s main goal is to create awareness of the spectacular Karoo, it’s people and to provide participants true “platteland” hospitality! The Tour benefits the local community in many ways by booking out all guest houses in the area, purchasing tour meals from the local supermarkets, bakeries etc and providing job opportunities to 30+ local workers.

Keep an eye out for Super Sport as the Tour will be broadcasted over the next couple of weeks on Super Cycling.
